East Van Art Print

Regular price $35.00 Sale

The East Van Cross is a symbol formed by the words East and Van written. Referencing the city’s Eastern half, traditionally less wealthy and harder-edged East Vancouver, now part of a renaissance becoming the artistic and cultural center.

The iconic cross figure dates all the way back to the 1950s.  Ken Lum, the artist who designed the monument pictured above, believes that that it originally reflected the large Catholic population in East Van at the time.

The cross itself is in a derelict unloved urban landscape, through Anja Jane's illustrative style of collage you can see the representation of East Van residential streets bursting with with quintessential Vancouver cherry blossom and greenery.

Beautiful!!!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I love the East Van sign it is so iconic but for me east van is also about the residential streets filled with blossom in beautiful gardens abundant and filling out into the sidewalk. I'm so glad it resonated :)
